The Ambulance Child Restraint (ACR)® is a flexible, fully harnessing system used for secure and effective restraint of infants and children whilst they are being transported in an ambulance. The mechanism addresses many of the issues faced by paramedics when transporting a child weighing 15kg upwards with a traditional restraint: the lack of adjustable harnessing and the inability to restrain a child with the addition of a vacuum mattress. The patented two-part system allows operation of the ARC® in all configurations, with breathable fabric maximising airflow and meeting infection control standards.

Developed by Lightweight Medical and the Scottish Ambulance Service – with the Children’s Acute Transport Service, NHS infection control officers and paediatric ICU specialists at Glasgow’s Yorkhill Hospital for Sick Children contributing to development – the ACR® is available in four sizes, is machine washable, provides universal compatibility with all stretchers and safe restraint of children weighing between 2 – 45kg.
