Ambicare Appoints New Non-Exec Director

SHIL spin out Ambicare, have appointed ex-P&G executive Dr Neil MacGilp as a non-executive director. He joins the company after more than 30 years with Proctor and Gamble and SAB across Europe and the US.

David Lawrence, chairman at Ambicare Health, said: "Neil's experience and expertise will be extremely valuable for the business, particularly as we move into commercialisation and future product design."

The Fife company has an innovative skin cancer sticking plaster called Ambulight and is about a launch an acne treatment based on light.

Touch Bionics Receives Helping Hand

Touch Bionics, spun out of NHS Lothian in 2003 by SHIL, have secured £2.5 million of investment from business angel groups. Touch Bionics who offers world-leading prosthetic technologies along with support services for people with upper limb deficiencies, will use the investment to undergo a "major period of expansion".


The new funding will allow Touch Bionics to increase significantly the sales infrastructure needed to support its new product range, whilst also supporting the continued development of new and existing products.

 

Great Danish Deal for Prism Glasses

From Dundee to Denmark - PrismGlassesTM have now been licensed for distribution in Denmark with hand therapy specialists K.C. Pedersen. The expert knowledge in the field provided by KC Pedersen will allow Prism Glasses to be utilised effectively in the Scandinavian market.

PrismGlasses were invented by Dr. Jonathan Bannister, a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Management in Ninewells Hospital, NHS Tayside and his colleague Dr. Glyn Walsh, a Senior Lecturer and Registered Optometrist from Glasgow Caledonian University.

Glasgow research team achieve success at RCUK Business Plan Competition

A team of experts from Glasgow have recently won a top prize after reaching the final of the Research Council UK Business Plan Competition for their work to develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic agents for acute ischaemic stroke. The money will be used to strengthen the investment position of Aurum Biosciences, the company set up to take the product to market.
